Who is who?

My name is Kirsten Birkegaard Stær.

After serving many years in major Danish companies as well as in Danish governmental institutions I have established my own consultancy company: Birkegaard Consult.

I have worked for several years as director of External Affairs in Novozymes, a Danish world leader in industrial biotech, and been deeply involved in regulatory- and public affairs issues related to a.o. the use of enzymes in foodstuffs, including food GMO. Before joining Novozymes I worked for Alfred Benzon/Benzon Brands, a Danish company developing and selling healthy confectionery (sugarfree chewing gum, throat lozenges). I started my professional career as a civil servant at a Danish governmental consumer association and later at a Danish governmental meat product control laboratory.

I have taken turns as chairman of Amfep (The European Association of Manufacturers and Formulators of Enzyme Products) and have served as a member of EuropaBIO’s Industrial Biotechnology Board and as a member of the Board of Danish Biotech.

I am an experienced speaker at public conferences and seminars and have published articles about food regulation, GMO and industrial biotechnology.
